Description

Item is about 5" long and about 4.25" high.  The amount of detail is actually extraordinary right down to the male anatomy which shows signs that part thereof was ground down after casting.  I do not know much about such details, but that much is obvious.  There are no hard lines like you would find in a run-of-the-mill mold.  I get the impression this was hand casted and ground by someone with exception skill, and very possibly on commission to capture the image of a beloved pet.  I am not certain how old this is, but would venture a guess that it predates the 1950's at least to place it in an era when displaying the full male anatomy might have been considered obscene.  Unfortunately, the only stamped marking that I can clearly identify is the letter "L" on the bottom of the rear right paw, or left side as you look at the dog head-on (see last picture).  Not as clear or positively discernable by me is another possible letter "L" on the bottom of the front right paw, or left side as you look at the dog head-on.   Also not as clear or positively discernable by me is the possible marking of a "6" or even possibly "16" or even "1/6" on the bottom front left paw (right side looking head-on).  If it's 1/6 it might be indicating the scale.  Your guess is as good as mine as to the materials, but I do believe I am correct that it is brass and was leafed with gold in at least three different shades.
