I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Please see my other offerings and thanks for stopping by!ABOUT:
This is such a fun and unique antique piece for a home bar or to set an interesting table! Amazingly detailed 3D / Double sided antique silver plated bottle stopper in the form of a figural owl, both sides of his face are decorated and he has turquoise bead eyes on each side (I assume they are beads and not real turquoise stones as they don't have veining).
This is an antique piece from the turn of the century to Art Nouveau era that I acquired in Europe. Some of the original old cork is remaining. It still works as a decorative stopper as seen in the photo, but to really seal and be water tight, the cork would need to be replaced as it has deteriorated some from age. I am selling it as is.
The piece is repousse work so it was made likely from a mold and then connecting to the two faces together, thus keeping it hollow in the center, but amazingly I don't really see a single deep dent. It has a fairly sturdy / not tinny hand feel and has held its form wonderfully.
It almost appears solid silver but under magnification only, I can see a few tiny areas of underlying brass. It polished up really nicely with a beautiful antique patina giving it really lifelike high relief detail. The owl head does tilt slightly to one side but I don't want to risk trying to bend it back as it could snap off.
The piece with measures almost 2 3/4 inches in height from the top of the ears to the bottom of the existing cork. Ear to ear it is over 1 3/4 inches wide. It is 1 1/4 inches deep measured from one protruding beak to the one on the other side.
Would make an excellent home accessory with an interesting history.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. The cork is deteriorating. A few areas of underlying brass coming through under magnification. Could possibly be cleaned up further but selling it as is, as I prefer antique patina and it has a nice shine. Deterioration to the steel blade from age. The owl details look awesome, I don't see a deep or distracting scratch or noticeable ding on him. Excellent detail in this rare antique figural piece.
But Please note that due to age this piece is not in mint condition.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
