VINTAGE 50-YEAR OLD SITAR 20" LONG - HAND CARVED BASE

This lot is for a vintage small sitar. It measures about 20" long in total. I am sure that there is a technical name for this type of sitar-looking instrument, but I cannot find any reference to it.
I personally bought this in an open bazaar in Delhi, India in 1972. So it is at least 49 years old. Bazaars usually sell older items, but it is not unusual to find "new' items in these areas. This can be 49 years old  - or it can be a lot older. I bought it back then as a souvenir and had it ever since.
It is mostly in good to very good condition, but it is missing 1 string. The strings are made of metal. The gourde-like base appears to be of hand-carved quality, in my opinion.
