This gorgeous handmade acoustic Sitar was purchased from Atlanta's Earthshaking Music in the mid '90s, and has primarily served as decoration in a climate-controlled home for the last 25 years. It was rarely played, and has never been taken outside the home.
This is a well-crafted, professional grade Sitar made in India in the classic "Shankar style," and is great for new or intermediate players. It has 7 main strings with wooden tuning pegs, as well as 11 taraf/sympathetic strings. Note that these are the original strings, and some will need to be replaced.
The instrument itself is a work of art, with a warm mahogany brown finish. The carving details on the base and resonator are simple but refined, while the detailed inlay that lines the Sitar is truly stunning.
It's in mint condition for a vintage instrument, with no visible scuffs or other flaws to be found. The original 2-wheeled hard case has a few small scuffs on the outside (see photos), but the inside is cushy and includes the original Indian cloth Sitar cover.
