Vintage STERLING SILVER FIGURAL “SANTA MARIA” SAILING SHIP BOTTLE / WINE CORK STOPPER. Miniature replica figurine of the Spanish Santa Maria Sailing Ship ( rigged with impressive design and detail including Lanteen sails, 3 masted ship, “castles” on both ends. and 2 flags).
Historical note: The Santa Maria was Christopher Columbus’s large cargo ship , which sailed along with the Nina and Pinta ships, during his discovery of America (the Santa Maria actually ran aground in the Haitian Islands). The three ships were the most modern cutting edge vessels of their time, with lanteen sails that allowed them greater speed and the ability to sail into the wind.

MEASUREMENTS sterling stopper (including cork) approximately 3 inches long x 1 3/4” wide.
SILVER PURITY: tested positive for sterling silver. We tested on more than one location to ensure accuracy as the markings had worn off including the ship, rim above cork and an area below ship.
MARKINGS: unable to find any markings. Oftentimes the mark is located on the metal edge of the “screw” portion which would account for it wearing off after continuous usage.
Age: Circa 1950s 1960s, (Mid 20th Century).
CONDITION: vintage, preowned and used. A few visible edge rim dings (see photos). Cork darkened from age. A small piece has worn off (See photos). Lightly tarnished. Light surface scratches. Overall, has nice patina and lots of charm.
